  • Description
This game is invented on the Technical University Twente in The Netherlands. The game is very original in its mechanisms. The board is built up from segments consisting of 7 hexes: one in the middle and six around. The board can be made quite large, but is usually something like 4x4 segments. The game takes longer as the board is larger. Each player has pieces of a color. Pieces can be stacked upon each other, and when the stack gets higher than the number of free hexes surrounding it, it explodes, spreading all surrounding hexes with one piece and leaving the original field wasted for ever. After a seven-hex segment is completely wasted, it is removed. So during the game the board (Atlantis) is disappearing into the waves. The goal of the game is to conquer as much free hexes as possible. A area is conquered if it is only touched by hexes without enemy-pieces (compare Go). But beware: there is a nasty element: exploding hexes tend to generate an unstoppable self-destructing machine. As far as I know this game is not commercially released, but nevertheless it has a large playing community, since the University Game Club (Fanaat) has now more than one generation of offspring players. The game plays best with 2, 3, 4 or 6 players, for symmetry reasons. - BoardGameGeek
